“Hi, I’m Bonnie Kaye.  If you’re bored with your workout, how about a little sword fighting? It’s a fun way to work up a sweat while working off some steam.”

Nothin’ like slicing and dicing up an imaginary opponent all in the name of good exercise. Developed by Italian martial artist Ilaria Montageria, this unique workout is called Forza.

“Forza is the Italian name for force or strength and it’s a workout based on Samurai sword fighting.”

“This wooden sword is your fighting tool and it represents also an extension of yourself.  Whenever you handle a weapon or a sword especially, you should not think of it something separate from you, it is the extension of your own self, it’s an extension of your arms, it’s an extension of your spirit, mostly, if you want to look a little more inside of what it means.”

Overhead slices work your back, shoulders, chest and abdominals. When you slice to the sides, you’re working your waist, biceps and triceps. Squats and lunges get your lower body into the action, while your hips and legs drive the strikes. The movements are simple, with only three basic cuts required.
Sot Ilaria
“Do over and over again the same movement until you perfect it, basically the Zen behind martial arts, the zen behind life.”
Bktrack 3
Concentration and good form are key to this cutting-edge workout. For Fitness Magazine, I’m Bonnie Kaye.
